What is the best way to connect my iMac (in my office) to my Pioneer KRP which is in my music / cinema room? I have bought the Moshi MDP-HDMI adaptor, but am having trouble with HDMI cables. I have tried several 10m HDMI cables without success. I know that the adaptor works because I have successfully tested it with a 5M HDMI cable.

My iMac is a late 2009 27' model which has the mini display port activated for this very purpose. The 10M HDMI cables are of good quality, are labelled '24AWG HDMI STANDARD with ETHERNET' and claim 'These cables will handle 1080p full HD at distances of 25m without requiring boosters or amplifiers', but don't seem to work when used in combination with a mini display port adaptor. Will using a 3M Mini Display Port cable, then the adaptor, then a 7M HDMI cable be a better bet than using just the adaptor and a 10M HDMI cable? Should I try another brand of mdp-hdmi adaptor? Should I be using an HDMI cable that is labelled 'HIGH SPEED' rather than 'STANDARD'? Does anyone have any first hand experience of solving this problem?

Have a longer mini display port cable before the adaptor, then a short HDMI cable? Your reply wasn't exactly helpful in getting me a solution, and didn't answer many of the queries raised in my original post. Please post some links to these 'powered extenders'. Anyone else with any real answers and solutions - please feel free to chip in. Perhaps this needs to be moved out of the HDMI section into the general interconnects section. But I don't need a 15m cable - I just need ~ 10m in total, I could probably get away with 8.5.

And I certainly don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on devices that are overkill to send video a few metres from one room to the next. Please suggest an 7-8m HDMI and a 2-3m MDP cable that actually work together with the Moshi mdp-hdmi adaptor! Or an 'Active' HDMI cable that will do the job. DisplayPort > DisplayPort is supposed to work at up to 15m - though often you have to go with some form of active solution due to Source devices not being able to drive cables much more than 3 or 4 m! DisplayPort to HDMI is anyone's guess in terms of how any particular system will behave. Active HDMI cables 'steal' power from the Source device and as yours appears to already be struggling with the conversion + a long passive cable you have no way of knowing in advance that an Active cable will do the trick. Powered Extenders are the only solution you can say with any degree of certainty will work for you!!
